A-Z Living Units
1993
The initial desire behind the A-Z Management and Maintenance Unit was to create a perfected habitat that solved all of one’s problems. Instead, the final iteration of this Unit resulted in loss of direction and an inexplicable feeling of discontent. Since then, the A-Z enterprise has been based on the belief that it is actually direction, or the idea of progress, which is in reality far more exciting than any possible end. As a way to continue to design more completely new Living Units, Zittel began producing Living Units for others. Each year a new design was revealed, and as many were produced as could be distributed. The 1993 Living Unit folds up like a steamer trunk, moves around on casters and can fit through a standard sized doorway. A folding cot and stools fit into the Unit in transport.
