A-Z Small Bed

1994

A-Z East was originally built as a boarding house for a nearby shipyard in the late ninetieth century and was later occupied by a family who ran a business out of the storefront. At one point, three generations of the family lived in the rowhouse at the same time. Given that most people live alone or divided by generation, it’s difficult to imagine the busy chaotic intimacy of a number of occupants living within this small structure. This history inspired several new designs that could be used for both single and communal living. The A-Z Small Bed, installed separately, can facilitate quiet individualism, and pushes together can foster an intimate and active social platform.
