Prototypes for Billboards

2005

Prototypes for Billboards is an ongoing series of paintings based on Zittel’s personal interest in advertising, design and “illustration.” Illustration is considered a lower form to fine art because it is used as a vehicle for promotion and propaganda – similar to how furniture design is considered a lesser form to sculpture. The Billboard series blurs the divide between objective truths and personal beliefs as it takes on the formalized authority associated with advertising and propaganda.
