Travel Trailer Drawings

These are preliminary drawings for the A-Z Travel Trailer Unit, a variation on the modern recreational vehicle that promoted the lure of tourism and travel in contemporary America, especially the West. Zittel was interested in how these portable living units connect suburban American ideals with the efficiency and clean design proposed by the utopian promises of early European modernism. Unlike commercially produced trailers that offer bland and rigid interior options, the Units were designed to accommodate a range of requirements and tastes.
