Walking Patterns, Performance

2009

Walking Patterns was a direct evolution of Single Strand Forward Motion, which utilized the technology of crochet as a form of a systematic and incremental building in which the form of the finished work is a manifestation of its underlying logic. Zittel began these works with a series of “permissions” or rules, each of which result in a specific formal language. In Walking Patterns these permissions were turned into a score which was “walked” by four performers, each assigned a specific pattern that undulated through space, bringing the group of walkers together and apart as they moved through the room.
